Billboard Hot 100 Countdown for the week of August 22, 2015 (including the songs that have dropped out of the chart from last week)

I spent so much time doing other stuff that I didn’t get around to posting the Billboard Hot 100 countdown.  “Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn remix)” by OMI was the #1 song last time, and now it’s The Weeknd’s first #1 song, “Can’t Feel My Face.”  The song is just okay in my opinion.  I’ll play it at DJ gigs for right now, but I doubt that it will be one of those songs that I’ll be playing for years.

The Hot Shot Debut is “Drag Me Down” by One Direction, which enters the chart at #3.  It’s the highest debut of a song in 2015.  It’s the band’s first single without former member Zayn Malik.  Kind of like “Can’t Feel My Face,” this song is pretty meh for me.  I really only ever play “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction because it’s their most dance-able hit.

“Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift is no longer the Longest Chart Sitter.  It’s now “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran.  Even though it peaked at #2 (held off by “Uptown Funk!” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars), it will probably be in the top 10 of the Billboard Year-End chart.  It’s still Ed’s biggest hit so far.  It was #2 for eight consecutive weeks.  The last time a song spent eight weeks at #2 without going to #1 was 11 years ago, when Mario Winans’ “I Don’t Wanna Know,” featuring Enya and P. Diddy (as he was then-billed), stayed in the runner-up position.
